North Myrlte Beach, SC - NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The North Myrtle Beach City Council has taken its first step towards banning tents along area beaches.
The proposed ordinance banning tents and cabanas in North Myrtle Beach passed 6-1 Tuesday night. City spokeswoman Nicole Aiello said the ban doesn't include umbrellas that are "no greater than 90 inches in height and 7'5" in diameter."
If the tent ordinance makes a clean sweep through council, it would go into effect on Sept. 15.
The proposed ordinance will go through a final reading at the next North Myrtle Beach City Council meeting on Aug. 2.
