NC man found guilty for 2007 marijuana seizure

Brunswick County, NC - BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A North Carolina man has been found guilty of helping to seize more than 150 pounds of marijuana from Leland, NC, in 2007.

Officials with the Brunswick County Sheriff's office said Michael Delfonte Bernard was originally tried in state court for his violations before the drug investigation was adopted by federal investigators.

Bernard was found guilty by a federal jury for charges ranging from conspiracy to distribute more than 50 kilos of marijuana and armed drug trafficking.

Bernard, according to Brunswick County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. April Gause, could face up to 40 years in prison.
