MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are letting go two of the three players who were suspended 50 games after testing positive for banned substances.
The third player is expected to be back with the team. The players were suspended on May 21.
Infielders Yoel Campusano and Amadeo Zazueta have been released by the Atlanta Braves, according to the Pelicans. Infielder Gerry Rodriguez is expected back with the team. At the time of his suspension, Rodriguez led the Pelicans with 8 home runs and 24 RBIs.
About a week after the suspensions were made public, Pelicans manager Rocket Wheeler told WMBF News character wasn't an issue with any of the three players.
"Great guys, all three of them let me tell you," said Wheeler on May 29. "I'd like to have all three of them for my sons, that's what I think of them. Apparently they got caught doing something wrong, unbeknownst to them. They're serving their time and we just move on."
