Bennettsville, SC - BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a Wednesday bomb scare in Bennettsville.

Lt. Larry Turner, spokesman for the Bennettsville Police Department, said officers were dispatched to 109 Fletcher St. in reference to a possible bomb threat.

A number of nearby residents were temporarily evacuated from nearby homes as the State Law Enforcement Division Bomb Unit searched a home of interest. The search by agents, however, returned negative results.

Further investigation by agents led to the arrest of William Wolf, 32, of Clio. Wolf was charged with conveying false information regarding the use of a destructive device.

Background checks on Wolf later revealed the 32-year-old has a prior felony record. Wolf could also face additional charges for verbal threats stemming from a June incident.

Wolf was booked into the Marlboro County Detention Center shortly after his arrest.
