Lucas Bay Road to reopen Wednesday afternoon

Horry County, SC -

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Construction crews are expecting to re-open a road in the Bucksport community of Horry County that was closed to the public for emergency repair operations.

Kelly Brosky, spokeswoman for Horry County, said a portion of Lucas Bay Road was closed Tuesday afternoon, as crews added extra clay to the roadway. Lucas Bay Road is a partially paved dirt road in Horry County.

Brosky said officials will re-open the road at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

    There's a federal push to crack down on an herbal supplement called Kratom, a botanical substance that grows naturally in Southeast Asia. Some states are working to ban the substance the Food and Drug Administration claims has similar effects as opioids. The FDA also recently re-issued a statement on Kratom, saying it presents a significant risk of exposure to salmonella. The FDA classifies Kratom as an opioid, claiming it has "opioid-like qualities."
