J. Reuben inmate found unresponsive in cell, dies

Horry County, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Doctors at the Conway Medical Center have pronounced an inmate dead after he was found unresponsive in his cell at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Tuesday night.

Lisa Bourcier, spokeswoman for Horry County, said staff members found Edward Richard Hone unresponsive around 9:15 p.m. Hone had arrived to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center three hours prior for criminal domestic violence.

Horry County Sheriff Phillip Thompson has requested an inquiry by the State Law Enforcement Division into Hone's death.

Standard protocol at the J.Reuben Long Detention Center requires the agency conduct an outside investigation into all in-custody inmate deaths.

A preliminary investigation has indicated no foul play was detected. A full autopsy will be performed at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
