Conway, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Despite receiving soaking rains Monday night, the South Carolina Forestry Commission says a wildfire near Conway continues to smolder.
Scott Hawkins, spokesman for the Forestry Commission, said crews continue to move water into an area along Hardwick Road where the underground fire continues to burn.
While the fire is 100 percent contained, officials said it has burned several inches into the ground.
Three divisions will continue to monitor hot spots along Hardwick Road with three fire tracks and sprinklers. Hawkins said crews plan to use four bulldozers to plow fresh fire breaks on the northern, western and eastern borders of the wildfire on Wednesday.
The fire has been burning for nearly three weeks after it was believed to have been sparked by lightning in June.
