Marlboro County, SC - BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - A Bennettsville man charged with murder in connection to a shooting in June has been denied bond on Tuesday.

Bennettsville Police were called to an apartment at 801 Oakwood St. after receiving reports on June 8 of an alleged shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Charles Hayes, 37, who had been shot twice.

Lt. Larry Turner, spokesman for the Bennettsville Police department, said the shooting was allegedly the result of an argument between Hayes and Clarence Kendell Cook, 29, of Bennettsville.

Cook was taken into custody shortly after the incident and charged with Hayes' murder. He remains in custody at the Marlboro County Detention Center without bond.
