Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - McLeod Health is welcoming a new chief medical officer after a nationwide search led the facility to fill the position formerly directed by Dr. Alva Whitehead.

Dr. E. Coy Irvin comes to the McLeod Regional Medical Center as its new vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer. Irvin, who served patients in a family medicine practice for 20 years, previously worked in Pensacola, FL.

"I chose McLeod Health for their great work in quality and safety initiatives," Irvin said. "I was also drawn to their positive culture and the warm staff. For these reasons, McLeod was a perfect fit."

Irvin's duties at McLeod Health will include overseeing the McLeod Hospitalist program and assuring that appropriate physician education, peer review, and quality assurance systems are in place to fulfill the mission and goals of McLeod Health.

He will also work to enhance the relationships and communications with the medical staff.
