Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Coastal Cancer Center is being honored in a new nationwide initiative to certify oncology practices that meet certain standards for high-quality cancer care.
The Coastal Cancer Center, according to officials, has become one of the first oncology practices in the nation to be recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative Certification Program. The program is an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
"This certification from ASCO and QOPI underscores our commitment to excellent care for our patients," Dr. Lawrence Holt, of the Coastal Cancer Center, said. "We're extremely proud to be among the first to receive [the] honor."
The program is a voluntary, self-assessment and improvement program launched by the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2009 to help medical oncology practices assess the quality of care they provide to patients. The QOPI Certification Program gives a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet standards for care.
The Coastal Cancer Center is one of 23 receiving the inaugural certification in 2010.
