Child left in heated car leads police to arrest father

Myrtle Beach, SC - LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - A 31-year-old man has been arrested by Horry County Police following a child neglect investigation in Myrtle Beach.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for Horry County Police, said officers found the child inside of a vehicle along Kings Road on Sunday around 6:15 p.m. An investigation by police revealed the father had left the child unattended in the vehicle for an estimated 45 minutes.

A cracked window allowed officers to reach into the vehicle, unlock the door and rescue the child from the car. The child was transported to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released into the custody of a family member.

The father of the child, identified as Daniel Lee Kelly, 31, of Little River, was arrested and transported to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Kelly has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child and remains in custody.
