UGA football players arrested for alcohol offenses

Athens, GA - ATLANTA (AP) - Two football players for the University of Georgia have been arrested on alcohol-related offenses shortly after similar charges prompted the resignation of the school's athletic director.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Dontavius Deshawn Jackson, a redshirt sophomore tailback, was charged early Saturday with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and other offenses.

Split end Tavarres King was arrested for underage possession of alcohol.

The arrests come almost a week after UGA Athletic Director Donnie Evans resigned following his arrest for drunken driving. Jackson did not return messages seeking comment. A phone listing for King was unavailable.
