MB Herald: How polluted is Myrtle Beach?

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Later this month, Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach could appear on the same list they made last year.

It's a list no tourist destination ever wants to be associated with — the Top 12 Most Polluted Beaches in the United States.

Last year, Surfside Beach and Myrtle Beach landed in fifth and seventh place, respectively, on the list published by BusinessInsider.com

There were 10 other beaches on the list. One was in Connecticut and one was in New York. The rest were in New Jersey and Florida.

According to the website, both Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach "tested repeatedly for high levels of bacteria in the last three years" and were late to issue public advisories.

With ever-present summer heat, tourists and locals alike are flocking to the coast to cool down, but are beachgoers wading in waste?

Or is this list merely a false alarm?
