SC Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team to practice rescues in Grand Strand

Horry County, SC - GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - A quarterly training exercise will be bringing military aircraft and rescue personnel to Horry and Georgetown counties over the weekend.

Lt. Robert Beebe, spokesman for Midway Fire Rescue, said the South Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team will be practicing near the Myrtle Beach International Airport on Saturday, in addition to the Sandy Island area on Sunday.

The SC Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team program combines specialized rescuers and pilots from the Army National Guard who perform helicopter rescues. The rescues, according to Beebe, are performed from a UH-60 Blackhawk.

The team is a collaborative effort between the State Urban Search and Rescue Task Force.
