Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Public Health Association has announced it will be honoring State Sen. Hugh Leatherman for his ongoing commitment to the public health of South Carolina's citizens.
Leatherman was honored with the 2010 Douglas E. Bryant Legislator of the Year Award during a presentation at the Florence County Health Department Thursday morning.
Officials credit the senator with sponsoring and supporting a number of bills and resolutions on the state level while serving in the South Carolina Senate. Leatherman was involved with designating a week in April as "Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week" and May 5 as "South Carolina Clean Hands Day."
Leatherman was also instrumental, according to agency officials, in public health funding to address statewide environmental and public health issues.
