Traffic stop leads Florence Co. deputies on brief car chase

Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The Florence County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who eluded deputies after a brief pursuit Tuesday evening.

Capt. Michael Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said deputies were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on Morris Crossroads when the suspect's vehicle was stopped. The vehicle left the scene of the traffic stop, resulting in a brief chase.

The car chase ended after the suspect's vehicle was driven into a ditch. The suspect, according to Nunn, fled from the vehicle on foot.

Deputies attempted to track the man down for about an hour, but concluded their search when they were unable to locate the suspect.

Nunn said the man has been identified and could possibly seek a warrant for his arrest upon further investigation.
