Lamar, SC - By Kyle Grainger
LAMAR, SC (WMBF) – Darlington County Sheriffs deputies say they arrested two juveniles and one adult after a report of strange activity at a local country club, but say this wasn't their first stop of the night.
Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd says deputies were called to the Governor's Run Golf Club in Lamar on Monday night where they found the suspects pulling away with golf carts on a trailer. The three suspects were then stopped by deputies and arrested.
"We just appreciate, that if the neighbors hadn't have called then they probably would have gotten away with this stuff," Byrd said.
Byrd says the trailer used to pull the golf carts away, were stolen from Kershaw County while the teenagers were traveling to Lamar for their next target.
This is one of many burglary cases Darlington County has worked the past few months with positive results thanks to tips from people living in the community, according to Byrd. He says this is the time these types of crimes tend to spike up.
"It's that time of year, especially in the summer," Byrd explained. "People are able to stay out late more into the night it's not as cold and a lot of people are out and about in the summer."
The two juveniles have been released to the custody of their guardians, but because of their ages their names will not be released. An 18-year-old was also arrested, and his name has not been released at this time.
