Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A crash involving seven vehicles and two pedestrians Tuesday morning sent five people to the hospital.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said the crash occurred between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. on Enoch Road near US-501. Officials shut down Enoch for about 30 minutes while emergency crews worked the scene.
Witnesses said a pickup truck went off the road, sparking the seven-car pileup. One witness said he believed heavy smoke from a controlled burn in the area caused the original accident. Collins said the source of the smoke has not yet been confirmed, but "low visibility" is being blamed for the crash.
Collins said two pedestrians were also involved in the accident as they were attempting to help passengers inside of the vehicles.
Emergency crews transported five people for medical attention. No word on their conditions at this time.
People traveling in the area of Enoch Road Tuesday and Wednesday morning should take precaution because visibility could again be low, Collins said.
