$100,000 grant helps 15th Judicial Circuit prosecute CDV cases

Horry County, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The 15th Judicial Circuit has received a large state grant to make up for lost funds for prosecuting criminal domestic violence cases, Solicitor Greg Hembree announced Tuesday.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs awarded the 15th Judicial Circuit a $100,000 grant towards the prosecution of criminal domestic violence cases, following a steep cut from state budget shortfalls.

The money, according to Hembree, will be used to fund a full-time assistant solicitor and administrative assistant to help prosecute criminal domestic violence cases.

"This grant demonstrates the state's continued commitment to address the issue of domestic violence, even in very tough budget times," Hembree said.

The $100,000 grant was a portion of a $1.6 million statewide grant towards each of the state's 16 circuits.
