Police departments swap equipment in tough times

Conway, SC - CONWAY, SC (AP) - Police departments along South Carolina's Grand Strand are helping each other out not just with crime tips, but by sharing equipment too.

The Horry-Georgetown Police Chiefs Association figures it's a good thing to do in tough economic times.

Conway police are retiring the force's Crown Victorias and sharing two safety cages with Aynor police, whose officers are using old versions that suspects can spit through.

Briarcliffe Acres Police Chief Kyle Lamparter says his department saved $150 when Conway police gave him some old window bars.

Conway Police Chief Reggie Gosnell says he is glad to help because he knows all police departments are struggling to stretch their budgets.
