Georgetown County, SC - GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - St. Frances Animal Center officials have announced the facility will reopen Tuesday after temporarily closing last week.
Mandy Johnson, spokeswoman for St. Frances, said a number of animals began falling ill after a sick dog was brought to the facility by local animal control workers.
Officials confirmed the dog did not have distemper, as determined by a pathology report.
Workers at the shelter believe the dog is suffering from kennel cough or canine influenza. As a precaution, officials operated the center on a quarantine status in an effort to protect both shelter and public animals.
Officials have not commented on the type of illness that prompted the quarantine.
