Liberty County, GA - LIBERTY COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - The Multi Agency Crack Enforcement Drug Task Force Team found an operating liquor still deep in the woods in Liberty County in a shed off of Screven Fork Road in Midway.
The homeowner is now behind bars facing multiple charges including manufacturing liquor. The man who police say was operating the still is 67-year-old Everrett Johnson.
MACE Drug Task Force Team commander James Reid says from all the equipment and empty bottles the agents found, they believe Johnson's liquor still has been in operation for quite a while.
"I don't know don't know for sure if he was selling it we did find empty commercial bottles which indicate he was selling it," Reid said.
Reid said this is the first time since the late 1990s that someone in liberty county has been arrested for manufacturing moonshine.
"We don't run across them as much I'm sure there is some still's functioning in the county this happens to be one of them," Reid said.
Police did find some marijuana plants on his property. So far Johnson has only been charged with manufacturing marijuana. They do plan to charge him for manufacturing corn liquor as well.
