SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The future of a popular restaurant in Surfside Beach is still uncertain.

"We have no idea," Nibils manager Maureen Butwin said.  "We haven't been told anything."

Since Nibils is located on a public pier owned by the town, by law they have to consider other bids from people interested in locating there.

The town is considering a bid from Cecil LLC, which includes former television personality Cecil Chandler and former town administrator Ed Booth.

Surfside Mayor Allen Deaton says Booth became involved in bidding with Cecil LLC after he resigned. Deaton says he asked Horry County solicitor Greg Hembree to investigate any possible wrongdoing for that reason.

No one is sure of when the new bids will be accepted because of the investigation, but Deaton says he's sending a letter to Hembree to find that out.

"I hope it's soon so my family and I and our employees can know what we have to do," Butwin said.  "It's been very stressful.  I believe for all parties involved to be honest with you."

Deaton says the new bids will be easier for both parties to complete, only requiring eight elements instead of 21.

"I believe the man upstairs will lead our family in the right direction He's never led us astray," Butwin said.

Solicitor Hembree and Cecil Chandler could not be reached for comment.
