52-year-old jailed in connection to Conway stabbing

Horry County, SC - HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Police in Horry County have released additional details into an early Tuesday evening stabbing in Conway that sent one man to the hospital.

Officers responded to a home on Kimberly Drive in Conway just before 4 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, offers found a 35-year-old man with a stab wound.

The victim told police on scene he and the suspect had been drinking when the two became engaged in an altercation. As a result of the altercation, the victim was stabbed.

A search of the residence led police to discover a kitchen knife that was allegedly used in the crime. The knife, according to an incident report, was found hidden underneath a couch.

A positive identification by the victim led police to arrest Jerome Grate, 52, of Conway, at a neighboring home in connection to the crime. Grate has since been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.

Grate remains in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $10,000 bail.
