Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Months of strategic planning and hearing community ideas are coming together in Florence, as officials prepare to reveal the city's final draft of its comprehensive plan.
Officials will show the final draft to the public at a meeting on July 19 at 7 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. The plan, according to City of Florence officials, aims at planning for future growth and development throughout the Pee Dee town.
Tom Shearin, the city's special projects administrator, described the plan as consisting of six chapters that "devise goals for community character, transportation, housing and neighborhoods, economic development and implementation."
"The comprehensive plan is a reflection of the community's desires expressed in a long-term document that guides development," an official announcement said. "It is an essential document for any municipality seeking the best quality of life for its residents."
Before moving into the motion, the plan must first be accepted by the Florence City Council and implemented among various city agencies.
Officials say the strategic community and government plan will help guide the City of Florence throughout its next 20 years.
