MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Police say a tourist staying at a hotel was bitten by a coyote early Monday morning.

Officers say the woman from Germany was sitting in a sandy area off of the patio at the Charleston Harbor and Marina resort when the coyote bit her on her right calf.

The incident happened just before 1 a.m.

Police say the victim was treated at the scene by EMS, but declined to go to the hospital. Officers say witnesses tried to scare the coyote away by kicking and throwing sand at it.

Hotel security said it wasn't the first time a coyote had been seen on the property.
