Lightning strike blamed for office fire

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - According to Horry County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Leslie Yancey, a lightning strike caused a fire that damaged an office building Sunday afternoon.

The office building, which houses a division of the South Carolina Department of Social Services and a doctor's office on Palmetto Pointe Boulevard, had smoke pouring out of the second story when units arrived.  The call came in just after 3 p.m.

Firefighters had to cut the roof and break windows to control the blaze.  There is no word yet on the extent of the damage. No one was working in the building when the fire started.
