LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The question Lufkin Police may have been asking while responding to a disturbance Tuesday may have been, "Who threw the corn?"

According to Det. J.B. Smith, police responded to the disturbance Tuesday morning. The report stated two women went to a home on the 100 block of Daniels Street to get keys from one of the women's child's father.

When police arrived, Smith said they witnessed Latoya Evans, 22, of Lufkin, pick up a can of corn and throw it at the man's girlfriend's car, putting a dent in it.

Police detained Evans and while they were explaining the charge of criminal mischief to her, the man walked up to her and began talking to her about what she did. The report states Evans said, "If I'm going to jail, I'll be going for something," the broke away from the officer and ran at the man in "an aggressive manner."

The officer managed to stop her. Police have now filed a charge of retaliation, for going after the man, in addition to the criminal mischief charge.

The report states Evans and her companion claimed the man began throwing canned goods at their vehicle, and officers did observe scratches on the vehicle. But the man denied throwing the cans and said the women began throwing the cans at his girlfriend's car. He said he did not know how the cans were thrown back at their vehicle.

Smith said Evans will also be served on 10 different misdemeanor traffic offenses, totaling $2,500 in fines.
