NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Jerome Bettis knows quite a bit about having a standout season. The six-time NFL Pro Bowler was one of the guests at the All-Star Gala before the California-Carolina League All-Star Game, being held Tuesday evening at BB&T Coastal Field.
Bettis, who is a member of a group which owns part of the Pelicans, had words of encouragement for the All-Stars he had the chance to meet.
"I just tell them, 'Congratulations, keep up the good work,' because they're on the right path," said the former Pittsburgh Steeler. "It's not in the [big leagues] yet, but with a little more hard work they'll be there."
Bettis will be in attendance at the California-Carolina League All-Star Game, though he says he doesn't know what exactly he'll be doing.
The players were excited for the Gala and also couldn't help looking ahead to the game itself.
"It's a great honor to get to play and represent the Braves and represent Myrtle Beach," said Myrtle Beach Pelicans pitcher J.J. Hoover. "I'm looking forward to it, should be fun."
The Gala was held at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach.
