'Wizard' classes among those offered for kids at CCU

Myrtle Beach, SC - CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A series of youth camps based on the Harry Potter Hogwarts School of Wizardry is offering children an opportunity to "use their imagination" at Coastal Carolina University.

The "Magical Wizards Camp," "Fantastic Flower Child" and "Forensic Science" are a few of the creative camps designed for area children ages 6-12 this summer at CCU's Waccamaw High Education Center in Litchfield and the Myrtle Beach Education Center in Myrtle Beach.

Children will get to brew potions, go on quests, make wizard hats and wands, pick wizard names and write spells.

The centers also offer other camps, which will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1-5 p.m.

Sign-up is still open for the following dates:

  • June 28-July 2: "Photography" or "UP!" and "Sugary Chefs" or "Coral Reef Commotion"
  • July 12-16: "Forensic Science" or "Computer Starters" and "Magical Wizards" or "Pirates"
  • July 19-23: "It's Easy Being Green" or "Hardware Store Music" and "The Amazing Human Body" or "Musical Theatre"
  • July 26-30: "Photography" or "Pirates" and "Forensic Science Lab" or "Fantastic Flower Child"

The program operates in half-day and full-day weekly sessions in June and July, excluding the week that includes the Fourth of July.
