Fans rally behind Johnson despite loss

Murrells Inlet, SC - MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - Despite Coastal Carolina University alum Dustin Johnson's loss at the United States Open, fans showed their strong support in Murrells Inlet.

Johnson is a member of Tournament Players Club Myrtle Beach and practices at the course when he is in town.

TPC worker Casey Cook says everyone at the course is 100 percent behind Johnson.

"It's very exciting," Cook said.  "Our whole staff's behind him. It's great to be a part of something like this locally, especially in a small town like Myrtle Beach."

Grand Strand fans gathered at On the Half Shell in Murrells Inlet and although they had a great time, the mood was intense as they watched 25-year-old Johnson struggle on Sunday.

The bar's owner Michael Calderiso Jr. was just happy to be watching someone with connections to the area.

"[It's] great to see a local guy coming out of Coastal and then the support we get from the TPC, the course that he plays out of," Calderiso said.  "It's really good for Murrells Inlet."
