COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - SLED agents have closed an investigation Wednesday into a presumed death threat made to current South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster on May 18.
Agency spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said investigators made contact with the person believed to be behind a presumed threatening note addressed to McMaster. The note was discovered in the deposit drop box of Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union, located on Dorchester Road in North Charleston.
An investigation determined the note posed no harm to McMaster, and a reference to "Jesuits" was not related to a threat against the state official.
Following news of the potential death threat, McMaster was placed under state police protection.
McMaster was one of four candidates seeking the Republican nomination for governor, but was knocked out of the race during the June 8 primary.
