North Myrtle Beach, SC - NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A 21-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly dragging a state trooper down the road and hitting another during the Memorial Day Bikefest.

Brandon Lamar Simmons, of North Charleston, has been charged with two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature after his arrest by SLED agents.

According to an arrest warrant, the assault occurred within North Myrtle Beach city limits on May 29 along US-17 North when Simmons' vehicle was approached by a trooper for not following directions during a traffic stop. Officials said as the trooper approached the 1996 Jeep, he spotted a possible controlled substance.

As the trooper attempted to put the vehicle in park, Simmons allegedly drove away from the scene as the trooper held onto the vehicle. A second state trooper, according to an official SLED release, was hit by Simmons.

Simmons was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center following his arrest.
