NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The bills of utility customers in North Myrtle Beach will soon be increasing, after officials announced a city-wide rate hike in water, sewer and solid waste charges on Monday.

Nicole Aiello, spokeswoman for the City of North Myrtle Beach, said customers will begin seeing the new solid waste fees in July bills and new fees for water and sewer use in August.

Current figures reveal solid waste service fees will increase $1 per month, to an overall total of $19 for single-family residential and residential roll cart service. The cost for once-a-week pick-up dumpster service will increase from $84 to $88. Those who take advantage of extra pick-ups will see monthly fees increase from $81 to $85.

In addition to the extra solid waste charges, commercial roll cart service will jump from $28.80 to $30.25 per month. Rental can service will stay with a solid $23.20 price.

Aiello also added base fees for water and sewage service will remain the same, despite the slight increase of usage fees. Current water usage fees will increase to $2.71 per thousand gallons for 1,000 to 30,000 gallons per month.

For water use exceeding 30,000 gallons, rates will increase to $3.08 per thousand gallons.

Irrigation water usage will take a jump to $3.08 per thousand gallons, up from a previous $2.89. Sewage fees for all customers will also increase from $2.45 to $2.66 per thousand gallons.
