Myrtle Beach landmark reinvented

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Second Avenue Pier in Myrtle Beach is getting an upgrade that will bring a new pier house featuring a 118-seat restaurant and a rooftop lounge.

Owner Teak Collins began construction on the pier this winter and hopes to have the doors of the Pier House open in the next few weeks. Collins and his crew are hard at work to finish the building that replaces the old Lighthouse Motel at Second Avenue and Ocean Boulevard.

According to Pier House GM Seth Gibson, the building will mesh seamlessly with the new boardwalk.

"The boardwalk will actually come right through to the front of the elevators and the stair tread and finish out at First Avenue," said Gibson.

Koribrett Turner-Vaught, executive assistant for the Downtown Redevelopment Corporation, says the new pier is about serving the public.

"The public is more than welcome to come into the restaurant and enjoy a Pepsi-cola and look out on the ocean from the second story as well and enjoy that beautiful view," Turner-Vaught said.

The Pier House is the first of a three part project aimed at revamping the area with additional retail and parking.
