1 charged with murder after Bennettsville shooting

Bennettsville, SC - BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A Bennettsville man has been charged with murder following a shooting on Oakwood Street Thursday night, according to authorities.

Bennettsville Police were called to an apartment at 801 Oakwood St. around 6 p.m. on a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found Charles Hayes, 37, shot twice.

Clarence Kendell Cook, 29, of Bennettsville, has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center.

Bennettsville Lt. Larry Turner said the shooting was the result of an argument between Cook and Hayes.
