Firefighter conference held in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Hundreds of firefighters are in the Grand Strand for the 105th annual South Carolina Fire-Rescue Conference.

The event features training seminars and tools to help improve firefighters abilities, including a firefighter challenge, a car extraction competition and vendors. Organizers believe the conference helps to improve the civil servants that we count on every day.

"Eighty-two firefighters died last year in the line of duty," said Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue Chief Alvin Payne. "We are responsible, we can make a difference in the things we do as individual firefighters. Those are important messages that everyone needs to take home."

Before it ends, awards will be given out, including the presentation of lifetime achievement award.

The conference wraps up this Saturday.
