Florence, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - A Florence man was arrested Tuesday by Charleston Police after he allegedly solicited sex from someone he thought was a young teenage girl, according to Attorney General Henry McMaster.
Charles Edgebert Rogers Jr., 34, is charged with criminal solicitation of a minor. CPD officers arrested him with assistance from the Florence County Sheriff's Office. If convicted, Rogers faces up to 10 years in prison.
On March 2, investigators say Rogers solicited sex on the internet from an undercover Charleston Police officer posing as the girl. On June 8, officers searched Rogers home on Wildcat Road Tuesday and seized computer equipment.
Rogers was released from jail on Wednesday on $50,000 bond.
Both the Charleston Police Department and the Florence County Sheriff's Department are members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
