Firefighters Combat Challenge to be held in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Broadway at the Beach will be hosting the 15th annual South Carolina Firefighters Association Combat Challenge on Friday. The event is expect to bring more than 2,000 firefighters and spectators to Myrtle Beach.

Events at the Combat Challenge are designed to challenge firefighter fitness and demonstrate the degree of difficulty of extracting a 175-pound dummy. In another event, firefighters competing will have to climb a five-story tower and demonstrate other abilities like chopping, hoisting and dragging fire hoses.

"It will be wonderful to share our complex with some first-timers and returning visitors," said Pat Walsh, senior VP of Burroughs & Chapin Co., Broadway at the Beach's parent company. "If you've ever seen a firefighter combat challenge, we hope you'll stop by."

The event is slated for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday in the parking lot in front of the Hard Rock Cafe.

In the fall, Broadway at the Beach will be hosting another firefighter competition, The Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge World Challenge XIX, Nov. 9-13.
