FMU Baseball Players listed in final NCAA stats

FLORENCE, SC – Numerous Francis Marion University baseball players were listed in the final 2010 NCAA Division II baseball statistical report, while the Patriots ranked highly in several team categories.

In the team rankings, the Patriots ranked among the Top 20 in six statistical categories: 8th in sacrifice bunts (56), 13th in earned run average (3.67) and fewest hits allowed per nine innings (8.63), 14th in won-loss percentage (.741), 15th in fielding percentage (.967), and 20th in players being hit-by-pitches (83).  FMU ranked 89th in scoring offense at 7.1 runs scored per game.

Senior right-handed pitcher Brandon Forshee (Jacksonville, FL) ranked fifth nationally in saves (13), while freshman righty Don Sandifer (Bamberg, SC) ranked ninth in fewest walks allowed per nine innings (1.17), 53rd in ERA (2.73), and 58th in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.66). Senior right-hander Erik Sommerville (Charlotte, NC) was 61st in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.73).

At the plate, senior Barrett Kleinknecht (Florence, SC) ranked 13th in sacrifice flies (8), 45th in total bases (141), 55th in toughest to strike out (once every 15.2 at bats), 61st in home runs (13), and 74th in doubles (19).

Senior catcher Logan Bland (Charleston, SC) was eighth in times being hit-by-pitches (21) and 11th in times being hit-by-pitches per game (0.43).  Junior first baseman Preston Shuey (Charlotte, NC) ranked 60th in times being hit-by-pitches (14), while junior infielder Tyler Cappelmann (Sumter, SC) was 34th in sacrifice bunts (10) and 42nd in sacrifice bunts per game (0.19). Sophomore outfielder Tyler Boyd (Lamar, SC) ranked 17th in sacrifice bunts (11) and 24th in sacrifice bunts per game (0.23).

Francis Marion compiled a 40-14 record in 2010, shared the Peach Belt Conference East Division crown, and earned its fifth NCAA Division II national tournament bid in the past eight years, placing second at the Southeast Regional which the Patriots hosted.  FMU was ranked 10th in the final 2010 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Top 30 poll.

    LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) - A suspect is behind bars Saturday, charged with murder in connection to the death of 85-year-old Rufus Revels of Lumberton County.
