Police: 1 charged after teen says she was thrown from balcony

Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A 17-year-old has been charged with assault after a West Virginia teen said she was raped and thrown off a second floor balcony, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Cody James Epley, 17, of Swansea, has been charged with first degree assault.

Myrtle Beach Police were called to the Sea Dunes Motel, 605 S. Ocean Blvd. Monday afternoon after the 18-year-old victim from Ravenswood, WV, said she was sexually assaulted and thrown from the balcony.

According to a police report, witnesses told police they heard screams and saw Epley and another man throw the girl from the balcony. The girl, who was nude when she was tossed, was yelling that she was raped, held down, drugged and choked, according to witnesses.

Investigators said when they arrived the victim was highly intoxicated. Emergency crews transported the girl to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigation is ongoing at this time.
