Nine deaths on SC highways during Memorial Day weekend

COLUMBIA, SC - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina highways during the 78-hour Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The holiday weekend ran from May 28 at 6 p.m. until May 31 at midnight.

Six people died during the Memorial Day weekend in 2009.

These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions reported to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and in the media as of May 31.
