Myrtle Beach, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach residents and visitors alike joined swimmers across the world in The World's Largest Swimming lesson Thursday at Myrtle Waves Ocean in Motion swimming pool.
Event organizers said the goal of the program is to raise awareness of the importance of teaching children to swim.
"Teaching children to swim is a key component in drowning prevention," said event spokesman Rowdy Gaines, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and TV announcer. "And The World's Largest Swimming Lesson program is a great way for local communities to draw attention to this message at the start of the swimming season."
The World's Largest Swimming Lesson coincides with National Water Safety Month, which is geared towards promoting safety and education around water.
