Let the Chants begin: Coastal's on the rise

Conway, SC - MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Gary Gilmore's not sure what else Coastal Carolina must do to prove it belongs among college baseball's elite.

Despite a perfect conference season and the most victories in Division I, the Chanticleers longtime coach understands there were likely a few gasps of surprise at his team's No. 4 national seeding.

Gilmore and the Chants hope to justify that high position this week at the NCAA regional they host and are strong favorites to win.

They open regional play Friday night against America East Conference tournament champion Stony Brook. Coastal Carolina beat the Seawolves 36-3 when they last met in 2009.

College of Charleston and North Carolina State are also playing at BB&T Coastal Field.
