The Coastal Carolina baseball team is hosting an NCAA regional tournament this weekend in Myrtle Beach and we wish the team much success in advancing to the next round.
When you think about the positive exposure the region will receive from this national platform, it makes you realize how valuable our local institutions are to our region.
Consider This: Whether it is Coastal Carolina, Francis Marion, Coker College or any of the higher education facilities in our region, they deserve our support.
Most people are aware of the wonderful national visibility we receive when the athletic teams excel, but what often goes unnoticed is the huge financial impact these schools have on our local communities throughout the year. Think about the employee payroll that filters out to local businesses, the capital improvement projects that create jobs, and the thousands of students who need housing, gasoline, food, and all sorts of other services.
So, even though you may be a South Carolina Gamecock fan, a Clemson Tiger supporter, or whatever school you cheer to victory, we should all be year-round fans of our local colleges and universities.
Sure, cheer on your favorite school if they are playing against the local team, but the rest of the year let's all cheer for our local schools to continue to grow and have much success.
