Golf tournament to benefit Grand Strand hospice, counseling center

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Grand Strand-based hospice and counseling center hope to benefit from the 15th annual Dr. Holmes B. Springs Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament on July 17 in Pawleys Island.

The tournament, scheduled to take place at True Blue Golf Plantation, will benefit The Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center and Mercy Care, both of which are registered non-profit, charitable organizations.

Event organizers say the tournament is played in honor of Dr. Holmes B. Springs Jr., who was the first surgeon in Myrtle Beach during the 1958 opening of the Ocean View Memorial Hospital. Springs served as Chief of Staff at the Ocean View Memorial Hospital and Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

The tournament recognizes the accomplishments and service the doctor brought to the Grand Strand. The 2010 edition of the tournament is a new, innovative initiative for two Grand Strand non-profit organizations to partner and collaborate, according to event organizers.

Information regarding the tournament can be found at or by calling The Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center at (843) 448-4820.
