Columbia, SC - COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Emergency Management Division has released its 2010 South Carolina Hurricane Guide Tuesday to mark the start of this year's hurricane season.
Throughout the six-month season, the guide will be available online in both English and Spanish, in addition to being distributed in Grand Strand newspapers at the beginning of June.
The guide is the only officially recognized hurricane preparedness guide for the Palmetto State and is valid throughout the 2010 season. The guide includes important information residents and tourists can use before, during and after tropical weather.
Preparation information includes lists of suggested safety and convenience items, evacuation routes, shelter locations, broadcast stations, useful websites and animal care resources. The information has been compiled from federal and state agencies, volunteer organizations and the private sector.
The 2010 hurricane season runs June 1 through Nov. 30.
