Chants advance to championship

Rock Hill, SC - From Coastal Carolina University:

ROCK HILL, SC – Down 6-1 early, No. 1 seed Coastal Carolina hit four home runs to defeat No. 4 seed High Point, 15-9, in Game 10 of the 2010 Royal Purple Big South Baseball Championship, May 28 at The Winthrop Ballpark on the campus of Winthrop University.

With the victory, the Chanticleers improve to 50-7 and advance to tomorrow's Championship game.  High Point falls to 31-28 and plays No. 2 Liberty later Friday night in an elimination contest for a chance to earn a berth in Saturday's Championship game.

Coastal Carolina ties the Big South single-season record for wins, its fourth 50-win season since 2005.  The Chants are also the first team to score 10 runs in three-straight Big South Tournament games since Liberty did it in four consecutive contests in 2008.

"I told the kids in the huddle that this is one of the biggest wins of the season," said Coastal Carolina Head Coach Gary Gilmore.  "Honestly, they had the momentum and were effective on the mound."

In honor of Memorial Day Weekend, all Military veterans and active members of the armed forces and National Guard will be admitted free to Saturday's 1 p.m. Big South Baseball Championship game at The Winthrop Ballpark.  Accompanying immediate family members will be admitted to the game for $5 each.
