Deputies link teen, juvenile to string of SCDOT break-ins

Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A string break-ins at the South Carolina Department of Transportation office in Florence has led to the arrest of a 17-year-old and juvenile.

Capt. Michael Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said Amir Jones, of Florence, and an unidentified juvenile were arrested Monday while trying to flee the SCDOT office on East Palmetto Street.

Further investigation revealed the two were also linked to three other incidents in the area.

Jones was charged with three counts of second degree burglary, one count of grand larceny and three counts of petit larceny. He is being held at the Florence County Detention Center under a $10,000 surety bond.

The juvenile, according to Nunn, has been transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, where he awaits an evaluation.
