Florence, SC - FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Officials with the City of Florence are gearing up to break ground on nearly $713,000 worth of improvements and minor construction projects at Levy Park in June.
Special Services Administrator Tom Shearin said an official ground breaking ceremony for the improvements will be held on June 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the park's facility on the Pine Street extension.
The plans for improvements at Levy Park are coming full circle after the City of Florence gathered necessary funding and advertised for bids for the project in October 2009.The improvements, according to city records, have been financed by Section 108, CDBG and general funds.
Of the most notable improvements to the park is the addition of a new activity center and updates to a building used primarily by senior groups. The two projects combined will cost a projected $504,000.
Shearin added the revitalization effort will also include the replacement of a number of basketball courts, the addition of a large picnic shelter and tennis court lighting.
City of Florence officials estimate the project will take nine months to complete.
